I know why the caged bird sings je první autobiografií afroamerické autorky Mayi Angelou a je zároveň také nejslavnější. Já se k ní dostala úplnou náhodou a musím říci, že jde o hodně silné a dramatické čtení. Přibližuje nám život černochů v americkém jihu i osobní těžkosti dramatického života autorky. Ta si prošla sexuálním zneužitím, odloučením od rodičů i příliš brzkým mateřstvím, byl to ovšem ale také začátek pozoruhodného a pestrého života.
