The second volume brings everything I imagine from a quality fantasy saga. A magical system thought out to the last detail, a world with its own history, interesting characters and a very complex story. Fortunately, the syndrome of the second volume did not happen, and James Islington confirmed to me definitively that he simply knows how to write. Davian once again finds himself at the center of major events, trying to convince all the Gifted to travel to the Northern Barrier. Wirr does his best to fulfill the role of Warden of the North. Asha tries to find out where all the shadows have gone and gradually discovers their existence and what role they have to play in the future. Caeden is still chasing his own memories, and in his chapters we will discover new characters, culture and how the world worked back then. Despite the enormous number of pages, the story reads itself, constantly moves forward, and some pieces finally start to fit together. All the characters have their role and I consider their development to be the imaginary icing on the cake. The book also includes an overview of the characters and a glossary of terms.
