Sociální román v náhledu do života stárnoucího muže a jeho ženy a jméno autora je zárukou kvalitní četby.
Pátky se liší. Každý druhý den v týdnu bojuje plukovník a jeho nemocná manželka v neustálém boji proti chudobě a monotónnosti a společně škrábají své úspory za jídlo a léky, které je udržuje naživu. Ale v pátek přichází pošťák - a to nastavuje prchavou vlnu naděje, která se vlévá do stárnoucího srdce plukovníka.
