Great books, if you don't mind reading longer pieces (over 600 pages) - one of the all time sci-fi classics. You don't need to read the next volumes, it was written in a way that this book works actually very well on its own. The world of Arrakis is fascinating and really draws you in... The characters are interesting and the story drws you in! The world built by Herbert is original and new (/although the book is a bit older)
