Ted Chiang comes with a collection of nine breath-taking stories about questions which have been boggling humanity's mind since we first started fire. I'm going to briefly talk about my favorite 2 stories:
The Merchant and the Alchemist's Gate: the collection's first story - and my second favorite - is about a man who stumbles into an alchemist's shop who then shows him a door which takes him 20 years back into the past. The man decides he wants to change his past - like probably all of us would. This story left a lasting mark on me that very few time travel stories did.
My favorite story, The Great Silence, is a brief and cute story narrated by a Puerto Rican parrot at the world's most advanced satellite. The parrot mainly talks about our desire to look for extraterrestial life. With a tinge of melancholy and an incredibly powerful ending, this story found its way into my heart and hearts of many others'.
There are obviously more amazing stories in this collection, each better than the other.
