Jednoho dne po návratu ze školy Charlie zjistí, že rodiče museli nečekaně odjet na dlouhou pracovní cestu. Všechno vypadá velice podezřele. Charlie postupně pochopí, že Rafi Sadler, který ho vzal k sobě, je společníkem únosců jeho rodičů. Podaří se mu Rafimu uprchnout a vydává se na nebezpečnou cestu po moři na lodi Kirké, na které se plaví Thibaudetův královský plovoucí cirkus. Jeho spojenci se stávají kočky.
