Jeden z autorů, jehož romány nebo povídky mohu číst kdykoliv už více než dlouhou řádku let a přesto mě jejich četba zatím nedokázala nudit nebo dokonce otrávit.
Bylo to v časopisech o buničině z 30. let 20. století, kdy se autorův definitivní pohled na tvrdě uvařený detektivní příběh objevil poprvé. Tento titul zahrnuje příběhy, které sahají od dobře palcových stránek časopisu „Black Mask“ a „Dime Detective Magazine“, včetně „Muž, který měl rád psy“, „Dáma v jezeře“ a „Bay City Blues“.
