Grimm napsal několik opravdu temných pohádek, a zatímco Robbers Bridegroom je dobrým příkladem, zdaleka není nejsilnější. Příběh sleduje mladou dívku, která má být vdaná; její ženich vydává špatnou auru, která jí dává pocit strachu. Požádá ji do svého domu, který je v temném lese. Říká jí, aby sledovala stopu popela do svého domova. Vše velmi zlověstné. Neochotně souhlasí a to, co tam vidí, přináší její špatné pocity do reality.
